THE SILENT CLENCH

We wanted to dedicate a sculpture for the women who keep on fighting to live behind the closed doors. In Australia, the known cases of domestic violence has been in-creasing every year. Although Australia is considered a safe country 85% of the women don’t experience the feeling of being in a safe and happy home.  This is a group assessment that we were dedicated to work on.

The height of the tunnel has been raised to 11m high which created an opened hangout space for people to sit have a cup of coffee at the cafeteria where there is a wide range of seating options available for people such as benches and stairs thats been inspired by the opera house stairs. The hand that looks powerful is the male’s hand, the materials that’s used is sandstone because it’s a tough resistance material which gives an impression of the male’s strength.

The hand that’s grabbing the wrist represents a female hand and it shows how the female is trying to stop the male from taking a wrong action, the material of the hands is marble because it’s a strong elegant but delicate at the same time.

The sculpture is enlarged to be shown from far distance, theirs also a side lookout where people that’s walking across the street have a closer look without the need of going down the stairs.

The playground will have bold colours on the activities for the children.  Children are often victimized or witness cases of domestic violence.
For the white ribbon I made it one row in the middle of the wall with a purple outline to support the women. The white ribbon wall will honour White Ribbon Australia.

Regarding the tear drop we had in our original idea I would actually change that and place 2 massive glass tear drops near the stage area. The stage area is like an upper level like on top of the cafeteria. The tear drop area will also have a glass balustrade area running across it.
